Dear Malibu Little League Families and Friends,
Welcome back! Or if this is going to be your first season with us, Welcome!
As we get ready to begin the 61st season of Malibu Little League, it is important to look back from where we came and to look forward to where we are headed. Malibu Little League has always been a very resourceful and connected group. How many people were around when we played down the hill at Cross Creek and lost that space to the State? A diligent Little League community worked together to obtain temporary field space (which is now Bluffs Park) from the County of Los Angeles, raise money to construct baseball fields, and put hard work into building the fields. Our first games at Bluffs were on a dirt lot! And then Malibu became a City and acquired the park and fields and now we have a permanent home. We are fortunate that there is a very real possibility that there will be more baseball and softball fields and improved amenities at Bluffs Park in the very near future.
I am proud to share with you that the 2015-2016 Board of Directors is committed to work together this season to make your family experience at Malibu Little League not only positive and rewarding but also one that your kids will look back to many years from now as the best time of their lives.
Outside of the games that the kids play on the field, we have our challenges ahead of us. Limited and shared field space. Incongruous school field trip schedules. El Niño. Fundraising. During the offseason, our Board is planning for these very real items so that they become as invisible as possible and we can focus on teaching the kids the sports of Little League baseball and softball and all of the life lessons that can be learned while playing these games.
Whether you are new to Malibu Little League or have been around for decades, we would like your help. We would like Malibu Little League to continue to be a focal point of the community. All Little Leagues operate with strict boundary requirements, which makes it challenging for a smaller population like Malibu to have a large pool of players from which to draw. Our operating expenses are not met by our registration fees. Our program provides uniforms, equipment, photos, trophies, umpires, maintained fields, and more. We reduced the early registration discount this season in order to help balance our budget; however, we still have a significant fundraising requirement to meet the needs of this community program. We don’t require mandatory volunteer hours in the snack shack, or to umpire, or to maintain the fields, so if you have the ability to make a donation to Malibu Little League, please contribute whatever you can throughout the season toward our fundraising.
The season is coming up right around the corner with tryouts the first weekend in January! Stay tuned for the tryout schedule and more communication from us. And please register now. We are offering a discounted rate until December 31.
We want to hear from you at any time. If there is anything that we can do to improve your experience at Malibu Little League, please let us know!
